CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Dress Code:

Boy’s attire: Black tights / white T-shirt

Girl's: Pink tights and shoes for all classes. Tank or Short Sleeve Leotards are preferred. Full sole shoes are preferred up to Advanced Intermediate Level. White elastic waist belts are encouraged from Intermediate Level on.

Hair must be secured and neatly pulled off the face.

First Steps

Pink leotards, tights, and ballet slippers.

Creative Movement for 3 and 4 year olds.

Pre-ballet

Pink leotards, tights, and ballet slippers.

Intro to ballet for 5 and 6 year olds.

Primary Ballet

Light blue leotards.

Beginning ballet for 7 and 8 year olds.

Elementary Ballet

Royal blue or purple leotards.

Advanced Beginning ballet for 9-12 year olds. Develops musicality, expands vocabulary of classical technique, emphasis on proper placement, arm position, leg strength and articulation of head positions. Students are encouraged to master rudimentary ballet steps and clean technique. Movement in centre work continues to flow through positions and incorporate group dynamics

Intermediate Ballet

Burgundy or black leotards.

Intermediate ballet and pre-pointe. Develops style, energy and centre-work, more sophisticated barre-work, emphasis on increasing flexibility, jumping and turns. Some students may begin pointe in this level. Attendance of 3 ballet classes per week are the minimum requirement for the study of pointe. The Director will assess each student before allowing pointe shoes to be worn for barre. Typically, pointe work is begun in late October for the students ready to begin, and a special workshop is scheduled to instruct the new students (and parents if they like) in pointe-shoe care.

Advanced Intermediate Ballet

Black or green leotards

Continues to develop turning technique, and pushes students to master more difficult allegro including beated jumps, and turning jumps. Emphasis on fluid centre-work, core strength, and stamina.

Company

By invitation. Advanced ballet with performing opportunities monthly.

Black or white leotards.

Adult Class

Our 6 week sessions are taught by Donna Bissett. Our Intermediate Ballet Class is a traditional ballet class including barre and center work. This class is designed for teen & adult beginner and intermediate dancers, all are welcome. Great mother and daughter activity! The cost is $12 per class or $60 per 6 week session. Modern Dance

Learning forms of modern dance and moving with more freedom than classical ballet affords, the students explore dynamic movement and new shapes while growing in expressiveness and articulation.

Bare Feet, clothing that allows for full movement and is neat, dance pants, colored leotards are permitted. Hair should allow for turning and floor work, i.e. secured simply and neatly.

Contemporary Pointe Class

Pointe class begins with barre-work similar to any classical ballet pointe class, with the inclusion of some essential contemporary forms, now common in ballet repertoire.
